La Vie en Rose

With over a thousand pieces of art, the Rosewood Amsterdam team pays continuous homage to the city and its people through Dutch-infused art.

In preparation for Gay Pride, the in house art-gallery hosts a collection of gorgeous men, go and meet them 😉.

Harry the doorman welcomes you with a big, inviting smile and a gentle, inquisitive look, but without urging you to reply.  You may simply wander in, saunter through the spaces and take it all in.

Inside, the original colours of this classified monument have been reinstated and mixed with hues of blue and pops of orange and ochre. Green leafy plants, soft carpets, comfortable cosy corners and bowls of candy to nibble from.

A beautiful original detail is the flowery rims on the tiles, adorned with forget-me-nots. Their significance is both beautiful and heartbreaking. When this monument housed an orphanage, it was not just orphans who were left behind by their parents. Times were hard, with many mouths to feed. The intention was not to separate forever, but there was always the fear of forgetting. A forget-me-not flower was torn in two and joined together upon reunion. A sweet and painful keepsake.

It was a true pleasure wandering through the many spaces, with one common denominator: they all made me feel at home, or at least in a place where I would love to live. Near perfection, because perfection is not real.

I discovered many of the feelings and functions we co-developed way back in 2015 during the design pitch, now brought to life. Rosewood walks the talk, creating a sense of place and giving back to the city of Amsterdam. Feel free, feel Provo.
